The newly constructed Dharahara at Sundhara in Kathmandu will be temporarily operational from October 3. A minister informed me that the Council of Ministers meeting held on Thursday has decided to temporarily put Dharahara into operation from October 3 on the occasion of Constitution Day.
According to him, the responsibility of running Dharahara has been given to the Ministry of Urban Development of the Federal Government. Before the earthquake of 2072, the federal government entrusted Kathmandu Metropolitan City with the operation and management of Dharahara. The Metropolitan Corporation gave the contract to a private company.

The Minister informed us that Thursday’s Council of Ministers meeting canceled all previous decisions regarding the operation of the Dharahara.
Dharahara, which looks like 11 floors of the old design from the outside, now has 22 floors inside. Its height is 83.58 meters from the ground. Before the 1990 earthquake, the tower was 11 stories high. At that time, 2 floors were destroyed, and it was limited to 9 floors.
Now two elevators are being installed in it to climb the tower. The ruins of the old Dharahara structure destroyed by the earthquake have been preserved so that it can be observed openly. A three-story underground parking has been built under Dharahara Tower. An administrative building and a museum are also being built here.
