Kathmandu. The Government of India has given permission to Sutlej Jalvidyut Nigam (SJVN) Company to invest more than 50 million Indian rupees in the Lower Arun Hydroelectric Project of Nepal. Sutlej Jalvidyut Nigam itself has informed us that the Union Cabinet meeting of India has given permission to invest 5 crore, 792 Indian rupees.
The construction of the Lower Arun Hydropower Project (669 MW) is targeted to be completed within the next five years. This project will be built in the Sankhuwasabha district of Nepal. It will have four units. The capacity of each unit will be 167.25 MW. This project will be built in the Makalu Rural Municipality of Sankhuwasabha, Nepal. The Lower Arun Hydroelectric Project will be constructed in a lower area than the Arun Third Hydroelectric Project, with a capacity of 900 MW. Sutlej was also entrusted with the construction of Arun III.
The 46th meeting of the Investment Board held at the Prime Minister’s Residence, Baluwatar, on January 16, 2077, decided to hand over the construction of the Lower Arun Hydroelectric Project to India’s Sutlej. The board meeting presided over by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli chose Sutlej to be built under the public-private partnership model (construction, ownership, operation, and transfer-boot). Sutlej Jalvidyut Nigam (SJVN) is a joint venture company of the Central Government of India and the Himachal Pradesh Government.
India has planned to distribute the electricity generated from Lower Arun to Sitamarhi in Bihar.
